In January of 2008, Stillpoint Yoga Studios will host the Pranakriya Yoga Basic 200 hour Teacher Training program for the second time. Come attend this yoga filled weekend, meet the YTT director and learn about this exciting approach to Hatha Yoga.
Pranakriya Yoga was developed by Yoganand Michael Carroll as an approach to Tantric Hatha Yoga that is true to the ancient practice and adapted for modern practitioners.
Yoganand Michael Carroll has been recognized as a Master-Level teacher in the Kripalu Yoga tradition. Through many years of intensive study and practice of the Kripalu approach to yoga, Yoganand has gained a profound ability to distil and interpret esoteric yoga texts and techniques. After studying with Kripalu Yoga masters in India and America, Yoganand taught at Kripalu Center for more than 15 years before founding Radiant Well-being Yoga Center in North Augusta, South Carolina, where he leads Pranakriya Yoga 200 hour Basic and 500 Hour professional Level Yoga Teacher Training and a variety of other programs. Yoganand is registered with the National Yoga Alliance as an E-RYT500 level teacher.
Pranakriya yoga is based on the Hatha Yoga teachings of Swami Kripalu. Swami Kripalu was an ascetic yogi whose intensive practices led him to a very deep understanding of yoga, which he passed on to his students. His teachings were the inspiration behind Kripalu Yoga as developed by Yogi Amrit Desai and taught at Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health in Lenox, Massachusetts. The teachings of Swami Kripalu are also the inspiration behind Pranakriya Yoga. Pranakriya Yoga was developed by Yoganand Michael Carroll, a long time student of Amrit Desai, Swami Kripalu, and other teachers in Swami Kripalu's tradition.

In Ancient times yoga was pranayama based and asanas were simple positions that supported specific pranayamas. Pranakriya Yoga incorporates a strong focus on Pranayama to enhance asana practice. In this session we will learn some of the foundational principles of advanced Pranayama and explore them in an internal intermediate level asana class.
Pranayama and asana fill the body with energy. When the body is full of energy the ego mind dissolves into ecstasy.

| All yoga traditions are based on the teaching from ancient texts. Many concepts from yoga like charkas, kundalini, bandhas, samadhi etc., are only known from a few verses in a group of Tantric Hatha Yoga texts from the 14-17th centuries. Taken separately these concepts are vague and open to endless speculation. Taken together in the context of these texts a profound path emerges. This is the path from which modern practices have emerged but much has been lost along the way. We will look at an overview of the Tantric Hatha Yoga texts and focus on lost pieces that can enrich a modern yoga practice.

The bandhas, or locks, are taught in many Yoga traditions as inner contractions that stabilize the body in asana practice. Many students find that during or after practicing the locks they may feel grounded, strong or spiritually attuned. Some teachers may acknowledge these “deeper” effects but few can explain them or tell the student how to grow or increase these effects.
In the Tantric Hatha Yoga traditions, the bandhas were integral components of an inner process whose purpose was transformation of the self at the deepest level. The locks opened and channeled currents of energy that could change the functioning of the practitioner’s nervous system. A change in the nervous system caused a change in perception. A change in perception led to a change in identity that left the practitioners free to be who they really were.
Come and explore The Bandhas as they were used in ancient times and enrich your modern practice. Learn the inner practices of the ancient yogis that led them to enlightenment and see how their enlightenment might be available to us.
Program will include:
Instruction in original approach to bandha techniques
Instruction in asana and advanced pranayama incorporating bandha
Discussion on integrating and enhancing/moderating effects of techniques the ancient yogis considered too powerful for householder students
